Rotor, in collaboration with Sergio Sanna and Sandro Scalia. Manifesta 12, 2018

Forty years ago Pizzo Sella, the central hill of Monte Gallo north of Palermo, was colonised by a residential development. After years of illegal building, concrete pours, sales, abandoned construction sites and endless lawsuits, Pizzo Sella is today an unhappy stretch of the Palermo landscape and a symbol of corruption and illegality. In the shadow of these concrete skeletons, the only alternative to resignation remains denial.

However, behind the residential complex, traces of ancient paths lead to the summit of Pizzo Sella and from there to the nature reserve. Up there, a solitary concrete structure becomes an observatory from which to enjoy breathtaking views of the cliffs, the sea and the city, and to gain new perspectives on the relationship between people and landscape. Seen from above, the scarred hill thus becomes a healing device, offering a moment of relief from its prolonged exploitation.
